Silicoglycidol supplementation to reduce aflatoxin M1 in milk and biomarkers of liver dysfunction in dairy cows.

(Silicoglycidol) silicoglycidol supplement is a modified aluminum silicate that acts as a broad-spectrum mycotoxin binder. It creates hydrogen bridges with mycotoxins and prevents their absorption during the digestive tract.

Aflatoxin (AF) is a toxic secondary metabolite produced by filamentous fungi in food and feed. Aflatoxin M1 is a pathogenic metabolite that is transferred from feed to milk, thus endangering human health. Therefore, effective mitigation strategies are needed to reduce animal and human exposure to aflatoxin.

In summary, silicoglycidol feeding reduced absorption and transfer of dietary aflatoxin into milk and urine.

Primiparous Holstein cows (279 DIM (dry matter intake) and 675 kg body weight) were used with 21-day periods, in which days 1 to 14 were considered acclimation, and data collected on days 15 to 21 were used for analysis and analysis was used. Feed intake and milk production were recorded daily, stool samples were collected on day 20 of each period, blood and urine samples were collected on day 21 of each period, and milk samples were collected on the last 2 days of each period. Silicoglycidol supplementation reduced aflatoxin M1 in milk and urine.
